Jon Kaase Racing Engines Wins 2013 Engine Masters Challenge With COMP Cams® And FAST™

Memphis, TN – Top engine builder Jon Kaase and his talented team won their fifth Engine Masters Challenge with help from both COMP Cams® and FAST™ components.

2Every fall the AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge presented by Popular Hot Rodding brings some of the nation’s best builders to the University of Northwestern Ohio for a week-long showcase of horsepower. When this year’s edition was over, Georgia’s Jon Kaase Racing Engines had bested the ultra-competitive field for the fifth time. Kaase previously won the competition in ’03, ’04, ’08 and ’09.  For 2013 Kaase and his team built a unique four-valve, Ford Cobra 409c.i. Modular engine. In the finals its peak power output was 721 horsepower. The engine also posted incredible torque numbers on the final day, making 600 ft./lbs. at only 3200 RPM and peaking at an incredible 675 ft./lbs. Although Kaase had entered the final eliminations in second place, the aforementioned performance numbers increased the builder’s point total to 2961.7, which bested runner-up Accufab, Inc. by just over thirty markers. BES Racing finished third with a final score of 2863.7. The top five finishers all featured COMP Cams® camshafts, and nearly three quarters of all the participants ran COMP®-brand cams.  In addition to COMP Cams® valve train components, Kaase’s engine also utilized the cutting-edge FASTXFI 2.0™ Fuel Injection System. The setup required some special tuning and massaging, but getting the most out of unusual engine packages is a specialty for the folks at FAST™.

“The odd headers I made resulted in a fuel curve nightmare that was corrected with the features in the XFI 2.0™ box,” Kaase said. “Its advanced tuning options made the difference between winning and losing.”
